Start with the smallest thing you cannot open or change. Organization membership, project permissions, direct sharing, and review locks affect different parts of the experience.

Identify what is missing

  • The organization is missing: ask an organization admin to review your membership.
  • A project is missing: ask a person with Manage permission to review the project’s sharing.
  • A private file or folder is missing: ask its owner or a person with Manage permission to review the item’s sharing.
  • An item opens but is read-only: check your permission level and whether the item is locked for review.

Check where the item should appear

  1. Confirm that the organization switcher shows the intended organization.
  2. Open the correct project.
  3. Select the Files tab .
  4. Look in for content available through the project.
  5. Look in for private content another project member shared directly with you.
  6. If you opened a shortcut, check whether its target is shown as missing or inaccessible.
Sharing one private item does not make the rest of its owner’s area visible. A copied link identifies a project or item; it does not give the recipient new access.
  1. Confirm that you are signed in with the intended account.
  2. Confirm that you are using the correct organization.
  3. Ask the sender to review the project or item’s sharing and your permission level.
  4. Reopen the link after the sharing change is complete.

Request access

If the unavailable page shows Request access, select it and submit the request. Availability depends on the item and how you reached it. The person responsible for reviewing requests can:
  1. Open Requests.
  2. Select the Access tab.
  3. Find the pending request and review it.
If Request access is not available, contact the project or item owner directly.

When an item is read-only

Check these common causes:
  • View permission does not allow content changes.
  • A review request can lock an item until the review is completed or the item is unlocked.
  • Your permission may have changed after you opened the item.
Ask the owner or a person with Manage permission to confirm the intended level. Use View for review, Edit for content changes, and Manage when the person must also control sharing. After a change, refresh the project or reopen the item.

Expected result

The project or item appears in the expected location, and the available actions match the assigned permission level and review state.

Contact support

If access still looks wrong after an owner or manager confirms the sharing, contact support with the organization, project, item name, expected permission level, approximate time, and visible message. Do not send sensitive file contents.
