# Share updates and hand off work

> Summarize recent project activity or prepare context for the next person.

## What this helps you do

Use **Share update** to turn recent project activity into a concise team update. Use **Handoff** when another person needs enough context to continue a specific piece of work.

Both actions are available at the bottom of the project's **Files** pane.

## Share a project update

1. Select <Icon icon="share-2" color="#1F7A5A" /> **Share update**.
2. In **Activity timeline**, choose the period the update should cover.
3. Select **Generate from this window**.
4. Review the generated subject and body. Add, remove, or correct details before sending.
5. Choose the Circles channel or channels that should receive the update.
6. Select **Send**.

You can give the AI a revision instruction and select **Regenerate**, save the update as a project file, or leave it as a draft and resume it later.

<Warning>
  Review generated updates before sending. The draft may omit context or give too much weight to routine activity.
</Warning>

## Hand off a project, folder, or file

1. Select <Icon icon="handshake" color="#1F7A5A" /> **Handoff** at the bottom of the **Files** pane.
2. In **Select handoff context**, choose the files and folders the next person will need.
3. Select **Start Handoff**.
4. In chat, tell the agent who the handoff is for, what they need to accomplish, and any open decisions or risks.
5. Review the prepared handoff before sharing it.

For a narrower handoff, open a file or folder's More options menu <Icon icon="ellipsis" color="#1F7A5A" /> and choose its handoff action. This starts from that item instead of the full project.

## What to include

A useful handoff answers five questions:

* What is the current goal?
* What has already been completed?
* Which files or decisions are authoritative?
* What is blocked, risky, or still undecided?
* What should the next person do first?

Keep sensitive or private files out of the selected context unless the recipient is meant to receive them. A handoff does not replace project permissions.

## Expected result

An update gives the team a reviewed summary of recent activity. A handoff gives the next person a focused starting point tied to the relevant project items.

## Troubleshooting

* **The update misses recent work:** widen the activity window, then regenerate.
* **The draft includes noise:** narrow the timeline or state what the revision should emphasize.
* **Handoff cannot start:** open a project chat and select at least one accessible file or folder.
* **The recipient cannot open a referenced item:** update the item's sharing permissions before sending the handoff.
